Red Lion Borough adopted Ordinance #2010-09-01 requiring the inspection of smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in leased or rented dwelling units on an annual basis.  This ordinance requires the following:

  •  Smoke detectors are required to be located at the top of stairways or between sleeping areas and potential fire sources.
  •  In multi-family dwellings, smoke detectors shall be installed in all common hall areas. In the event that said common hall area is more than 20 feet in length, one smoke detector shall be required for every 20 feet or portion thereof of common hall area.
  •  A fire extinguisher for every floor is required in multi-family dwellings.

All landlords will be contacted to schedule yearly inspections of the smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in each unit.
