Building Permits – Building Permit Requirements (clicking the link will take you to another page)

Building permits are required under the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) for most construction-related activities, whether residential or commercial.

A building permit is required for, but not limited to, the following:

  • New construction
  • Additions and alterations
  • Demolition
  • Accessory structures over 1,000 square feet
  • Swimming pools and hot tubs 24 inches deep or greater
  • Any structural changes to a dwelling

Building permits are required for nearly all work performed on commercial structures.

In some cases, a zoning permit is also required in addition to a building permit. However, certain projects require only a zoning permit, including:

  • Fences
  • Sheds less than 1,000 square feet
  • Retaining walls less than 4 feet in height

Zoning Use Permits are also required for any change in the use of a structure.
(See Zoning Permit information below for additional details.)

IMPORTANT NOTICE EFFECTIVE APRIL 25, 2011:

Are you current with taxes, or other municipal service accounts?  If not you will be denied a zoning and/or building permit!
